Today, we’re talking about how to be different in a very busy marketplace. People often say that there are too many others in their industry—like coaches, for example. There are a thousand and one coaches in their area. So, how can someone differentiate themselves from everyone else?

Here are a couple of tips.

Firstly, many people talk about their USP, or Unique Selling Proposition. However, it’s better to think of it as UPS—Your Unique Personal Style. What does this mean? It’s about what’s different about you personally?

You may have a product, and people might say, “Oh, you’re a coach.” Even though you are different, people want to deal with you when you stand out, not necessarily because of your product.

So, what’s your personality style? What are your quirks? A lot of times, you hide them. What are your interests, your dislikes, your values? Sometimes, you don’t share these as much as you should. But once you do, people like you, they understand you.

For example, there’s a love for margaritas, something once hidden for fear of judgment. But once shared, it became part of the personal brand. Since then, many know the person as someone who enjoys margaritas.

So don’t be afraid to share your quirks, likes, and dislikes—your interests—because people will get you and understand you, even if they don’t share the same interests.

If you want to be different in a busy market, share your Unique Personal Style, your UPS, not just your USP.
