Today, you might be asking yourself a question:
Have you set your expectations?
Have you set your expectations with your clients?
Have you set your expectations with your suppliers?
Have you set your expectations with your team?
All the people around you need to know your expectations.
So firstly, do it EARLY.
When you’re engaging a new client or a new supplier, set out very clearly what your expectations are.
Do it in the first instance; don’t leave it until you’re deep into your relationship with your client or the like, and then start complaining about them not sticking to your expectations.
Secondly, be very DIRECT.
Say it very clearly; say it directly so they fully understand what your expectations are.
Don’t fluff around and try to sound all nice and lovey-dovey.
Say, “This is my expectation,” and be very clear on that.
Thirdly, HOLD THOSE BOUNDARIES.
When your client oversteps those expectations, just remind them, “Hey, you know, at our original meeting, I set out my expectations, and this is what I shared with you. I want you to stick within these boundaries.”
So make sure you are holding the boundaries and not letting people get away with being lower or outside your expectations.
Here are your three tips:
- Set your expectations early
- Be direct
- Hold those boundaries
